Blue Economy Knowledge Share Fair Exploring Sustainable Development

The Blue Economy Knowledge Share Fair, done in collaboration with the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) and the ECOFISH Programme, kicked off yesterday at the SunAfrica Hotel, Nyali, Mombasa.

The event was graced by various dignitaries, including stakeholders in the maritime and fisheries sector, hosted by Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nasir.

In a remarkable display of dedication to environmental consciousness, residents of Mombasa on Monday commemorated World Environment Day with a vibrant procession held in Makupa.

The event was graced by Mombasa Deputy Governor, Francis Thoya, who took note of the youth being on the frontline of the conservation movement, actively engaging in efforts to protect their surroundings.

The Permanent Secretary State Department of Shipping and Maritime, Mr. Shadrack Mwadime has urged the youth in the Coastal region to be aggressive in taking opportunities in the shipping and maritime industry.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Blue Radio, Mr. Mwadime noted the numerous job opportunities in the blue economy specifically for seafarers.

The PS mentioned that the increase in the number of institutions offering seafarers courses, such as Bandari Maritime Academy, Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology, Technical University of Mombasa, and Pioneer University gives youth an opportunity that they need to actively explore.

AMWIK holds sexual harassment workshop for coast journalists and media houses

The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), in conjunction with the Kenya Community Media Network, on Tuesday held a workshop on sexual harassment in the media industry in Mombasa. The event was attended by journalists and media professionals from various media houses in the county, and aimed to raise awareness about the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace.

AMWIK, in collaboration with partners such as Article 19 and the PROTECT – Kenya Project, has developed a model sexual harassment policy that they hope will be adopted by media houses that do not have a mechanism to handle sexual harassment in the workplace.

Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) in partnership with the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and The Swahili Pot Hub Foundation (SPH), yesterday launched the Kenya Innovation Bridge (KIB) platform.

The launch took place at Swahili Pot Hub. It was graced by dignitaries including, Dr. Mbwarii Kame, the County Executive Committee Member – Education, Mr. Anwar Ahmed, County Chief Officer ICT, Swahilipot Hub Chief Operating Officer, Atrash Ali, and Mr. George Masila, KeNIA, Communication and Partnership lead (Senior Corporate Communications) among others.
