{"id":1787,"date":"2023-01-20T11:26:07","date_gmt":"2023-01-20T08:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/giliticsmedia.co.ke\/?p=1787"},"modified":"2023-01-20T11:26:07","modified_gmt":"2023-01-20T08:26:07","slug":"compensation-for-families-displaced-by-the-dongo-kundu-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/giliticsmedia.co.ke\/compensation-for-families-displaced-by-the-dongo-kundu-project\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Compensation for families displaced by the Dongo Kundu project<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Patrick Chiriba<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The national government will release 1.4 billion shillings to compensate displaced families in Likoni to facilitate the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This comes after the African Centre for Corrective and Prevention Action filed a complaint at the Mombasa High Court seeking to stop the Dongo Kundu project owing to environmental concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petitioner claims the project will produce industrial waste which will probably be dumped into the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry Moses Kuria said the sub-division of land acquired for the displaced families would be undertaken and title deeds issued by March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe money is already released for the project-affected persons, the funds are with National Lands Commission (NLC).
