The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mombasa Chapter on Friday held their annual Mombasa Business Awards Ceremony at the Jumeirah Waterfront Hotel.

Mombasa Governor, Hon. Ali Hassan Joho was the guest of honor at the event. He attended the ceremony flanked by Mvita lawmaker and Mombasa gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Abdulswamad Shariff Nasir along with Jomvu MP Badi Twalib.

Actors from all sectors of business within Mombasa showed up to celebrate the winners from the 24 categories, which included three new categories this year.

The chairman of the KNCCI Mombasa chapter, Mustafa Ramadhan, called the efforts of the Mombasa business community a testament of the resiliency that they showed during the tough times experienced at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“During these unprecedented times, we’ve witnessed the business community overcome incredible obstacles by demonstrating innovation, grit and resiliency. Our 8th annual Business Award Gala has transformed into the Business Resilience Awards and will honor 22 businesses who have demonstrated their ability to quickly adapt and respond to business disruptions in the face of the global pandemic and the economic hardship that it has caused,” said Ramadhan.

Speaking at the event, governor Joho reiterated the sentiments by the KNCCI chairman and encouraged the business community of continued support and cooperation with the County Government office.

Political rhetoric made it to the stage with the two lawmakers, Shariff Nasir and Twalib, speaking against the mandate forcing businesses to clear Mombasa bound goods in Nairobi rather than releasing them at their destination.

The awards ceremony marked 8 years since the inaugural awards ceremony in 2013. However, last year there were no celebrations as the country was battling the Coronavirus pandemic.
