The 4th annual Jumuiya Agriculture and Blue Economy Investment Conference is set to be held in Hola, Tana River County from 7th to 9th December 2022

Hosted by the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) which consists of the 6 coastal counties: Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu, Tana River, and Taita Taveta, the conference aims at catalyzing economic growth and highlighting investment opportunities in the region.

The three previous conferences were held in Mombasa (2018), Kilifi (2019), and Kwale (2021) counties, taking a break due to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Tana River County Governor Dhadho Godhana acknowledged the significance of having the conference in Tana River, terming it a chance for the county to showcase her abilities.

“The objective of the conference is to continue with our development plans under the blue economy agenda which in reflection indicates that Tana River has the greatest potential in the blue economy matters,” said Godhana. 

He further stated that “many people don’t know that Tana has 76 kilometers of coastline, Tana Delta has great potential for many things that concern the blue economy not only fishing but in terms of agriculture, mining and tourism but these parts have not been developed.”

The governor was optimistic about the impact of the conference in boosting business, attracting investors, and improving the living standards of the people of Tana River County.

The county boasts the country’s longest river originating from Mount Kenya and depositing into the Indian Ocean. The river is a source of irrigation for the many agricultural schemes within the county.

Among the things the county boasts of, is the rich cultural and historical heritage, which have economic value due to them being tourist attractions. These include The Mau Mau detention camp in Hola, Delta Colonial Forts in Garsen, and Shaka Ruins.

The county is also home to some of the world’s most endangered species like the crested tana mangabey monkey and the red colobus monkey at the Tana primate reserve.
